The scene of Dinah's deflowering with an ancient holy idol in the shape of a dildo by her four proud, excited mothers under the twinkling stars on the night of her first menstruation is one of the sexiest, most glorious lesbian scenes I've ever read. I'd love to see it come to life on film. More hot sex scenes unfold as Dinah meets and falls in love with the heartbreakingly handsome young Prince Shechem in town. But alas, disaster strikes when some of her violent jealous brothers "avenge their sister's maidenhood" by committing some of the most vile atrocities in the Bible (which is actually filled with vile atrocities), slaughtering an entire city of men, women and children on the day after the men were circumcised. Though the Bible is silent on what becomes of Dinah, Diamant's heroine finds redemption in her calling as a midwife in a foreign land. This is an incredible, touching tale for any woman who has read the Bible and wondered what her place was in it, and for any man who truly cares.--DrSuzyB
